Safety in Loreto and Loreto Bay

As mentioned earlier, you can consider Loreto Bay to be safe as it has a friendly uniformed 24-hour security team that meanders through that community keeping an eye on things. In town the locals in the village of Loreto are very friendly to tourists, their livelihood. It is noticeably a family town and crime is relatively rare. Children play in the streets and teens seem to respect adults and are never seen hanging out menacingly on street corners. I do feel safer walking around the village of Loreto, day or night, than I do on the streets of any American city.

In fact, Loreto was highlighted as being safe for tourists in a recent USA Today article and certified safe by the US State Department. After 5-years of going to Loreto, I have never been approached by a panhandler nor an obtrusive person hawking cheap merchandise on the beach or the sidewalks. Also, there is only one timeshare outfit in Loreto so that, unlike Cabo San Lucas or other tourist towns, you rarely get asked to endure a sales pitch. There are no loud, cheesy nightclubs that are dumping drunks out on the sidewalk for you to deal with. So relax and enjoy firsthand the culture and flavor of Mexico.
